We all know that all politicians lie, some more than others but it remains true for all of them. But is this a bad thing and is it even realistic to expect any politician to be completely honest all the time? It would seem that lying is inevitable, and here’s why. Imagine that you are becoming popular, and people launch you in to politics. You are passionate and devoted to a certain promise, lets call it promise X. During the election you pledge to make sure promise X is top priority, and will become reality. You and your party are elected, and the first thing that happens, is that you are introduced to all the other parties who all have very different opinions and promises to keep. Negotiations begin, and soon you discover, to have any hope of having your promise X become reality, you are going to have to compromise. A democratic process demands this, and before you know it, promise X has become compromise X. It may be very frustrating, but compromise X can quickly shape shift in to compromise Y, and everybody that voted for you is not amused. So technically you never lied, but the end result is never going to be promise X, so people perceive you to be a liar, just like all those other politicians. By the way, any politician that never lies, always tends to be a ruthless dictator, because they don’t care about democracy or compromising.
Trump is the first of a new generation of politicians, with the promise of giving control to people who feel ignored and with no control over changing times. What I enjoy about Trump, is how unapologetic he is for speaking his mind, his hatred for PC sentimentality and his mistrust for mainstream media. On the other hand, the rest of the world finds Trump embarrassing, and the urge to resist American influence is growing. Some drastic changes are happening around the world, and as always with real change comes outrage. We are slowly learning to not repeat past mistakes, and it’s hopeful. People that view the world in absolutes will always be outraged, think of all politicians as liars and be forever disappointed. Here’s a link to a scene from a comedy movie, that perfectly shows how change and compromise is just not understood by many of us.
