So you’ve lost your job and you’re looking for work! Join the club dickhead, my advice: get used to being unemployed. Just do what you love and keep failing at it. I’ve gotten real good at masturbating, smoking weed and failing at computer games. Oh you have a talent? Well good for you, so do 1 billion other people. The times of building a career on one ability/talent/skill is history, that’s gone and dead. Nowadays you need at least a dozen different skills or your going to be replaced. And this is going to happen for everybody, first replaced by snotty little kids who will be tremendously overqualified, until they in their turn get replaced by machines. Already machines are smart enough to replace the jobs my parents worked their entire lives, and this process is only getting faster and faster.
But but but… I’m special or I’m different, doesn’t matter, we are all replaceable. So what to do? Being unemployed is this century’s new default setting for our lives. Figure out what you love, and just go out and do it. Don’t count on being payed for anything. But I need food and shelter! Well your shit out of luck buddy, so does everybody else and I don’t know anyone who’s willing to just give away their job to somebody else. So how do you earn a living? Nobody wants to give a simple honest answer to this question in my experience. How many times haven’t I gone to a job interview, and the first thing they expect out of your mouth is: what bullshit reason can you give that you are passionate about this bullshit job/company/product? Because if you say:”I’m passionate about having food in my belly and a roof over my head.” They automatically start shaking their heads and they will tell you, you can’t say that, you MUST be passionate about (insert shitty leftover job nobody wants to do). Meanwhile companies pretend they will go on like this for the next hundred years, that’s a lie. Politicians pretend jobs will come back and wages will rise, that’s my favourite lie. And what we are left with is a bunch of desperate lies and the insane hope that everything will work out some way. Reality is unemployment for all. Don’t beat yourself up about it, it’s not a failure, it is what it is. Pretending you have any kind of control over this, is going to do a lot more harm than accepting this reality.
I know this all seems very pessimistic and cynical, but haters will hate. And if you hate being unemployed, you will not like the future. Blame foreigners all you want, but they’re going to be just as unemployed as we are. So get over yourself and get it in your head, the only jobs in the future are maintenance for machines, military work, taking care of old people and farming food.
